I was listening to Thomas Sowell at work today. A point that really stood out to me was that a major issue with politicians is their timeframe often is only until the next election. This encourages them to create short term “solutions” that push the snowball down the hill to roll into an even bigger problem with much more painful solutions when they try to repeat the process of pushing it down the hill again. The natural finish is it rolls into a big enough ball that it can no longer be rolled down the hill. I think we can see this from both Rs and add on issues such as the national debt and social security.
