Edit: For example they could’ve made sketches about the No Kings rallies. Even if we all agree those Rallies were in good faith overall, there are still funny/goofy instances within them. We all know that. But it almost feels like you can’t joke about it because it’s seen as backing the administration by the viewers if you do so . So they just avoid doing something like that altogether.
love SNL. The ability to mix sharply written comedy with a variety of topical satire is typically top notch.
But there is currently no variety or creativity. There is no shock or disruptive commentary. It’s just extremely predictable rinse and repeat messaging. Every week is “let’s just recreate what the administration said/did, but make it a little goofy”.
They don’t need to avoid topics, they need to become less predictable. Problem is they probably don’t feel the need to change because the audience loves every second of their administration satirization even if it’s woefully repetitive.
Comedy should be scathing and disruptive on all fronts. Not just constantly aimed at the same front over and over and over and over.
At some point it’s no longer funny satire, it’s just pandering. Th
