I often half jokingly tell my friends when comparing two TV shows of similar premise for example: Weeds fell and broke it’s neck, so Breaking Bad can soar.
Both have a loved one die, or the main character is dying (in Breaking Bad’s case) and due to impending financial struggle or the fear of losing quality of life turn into a life of selling drugs.
The main characters means of survival in the ruthless world of substance peddling divulge greatly. Sadly Nancy of Weeds survives throughout seasons because every kingpin wants her in bed, rather than sheer wit, will, or even a black widow approach.
Walter White from Breaking Bad becoming more villainous over time, did it through sheer wit.
So to go back to my topic: What are some shows that had a similar concept where the initial release was not done well but a later different show executed better?
