Welcome to week 9 of the official r/NFL Power Rankings! How many teams do the Ravens have to destroy until they get their due? How will having access to the playbook for longer than forty-five minutes affect Josh Dobbs? How many losses can Micah Parsons justify? Will the Raiders get an interim coach morale boost for a second week, or is JMD already a memory? Discuss! 31/32 Reporting

| 1. | Eagles | – | 8-1 | Eagles fans will have the bye week to unclench their butts. After a shaky win, but a win nonetheless (a common theme for this Eagles team), the birds sit atop of the NFC standings at 8-1. The two main ingredients in their dominant regular season run dating back to the tail-end of 2021? Dominant play in the trenches, and Jalen Hurts. For the former, rookie Tyler Steen filled in at RG and made a key block on the first TD of the game, and the pass rush closed in on Dak when it mattered. On the latter point, Hurts showed why he’s still deserving of being in the MVP conversation with highlight-reel throws like the one to Smith. Yes, this is not the same team from a year ago. From 3rd in TO differential to 18th. From 2nd in yards allowed/game to 13th. But as long as Hurts is under center, and the Eagles can block, run defend, and pass rush against the best teams in the NFL, they’ll be near the top of these rankings. | |
| 2. | Ravens | – | 7-2 | A world-beaters performance from Baltimore this past Sunday; they outgained Seattle 515-151 in total yardage, rushed for 298 yards (including the welcoming of Keaton Mitchell, fantasy football hype train legend, to the NFL), as they move to a tie with the Chiefs for first place in the AFC. However; the rest of the AFC North is leaving Baltimore with no time to breathe as all 4 teams currently hold playoff spots, with the worst record in the division being 5-3. These next 2 home games will be absolutely critical for Baltimore. If they can move to 4-1 in AFC North play and distance themselves in the division race they’ll be sitting pretty. However a loss to either Cleveland or Cincinnati could prove costly, as this would open the floodgates right back open. The Ravens must move on from this game quickly and lay all eyes ahead on Cleveland. Guest written by /u/TylerWadesIV | |
| 3. | Chiefs | – | 7-2 | Tyreek Hill was talking shit for almost two years going into this game, so it’s more than a little sweet to see the corner we drafted because of his trade strip him and lead to a scoop and score that was the difference in the game. We’re halfway through the season and the Chiefs are in 1st place in the significantly better conference. That is in huge part due to that trade with Miami, and while every fan in KC misses the “fuck it Tyreek down there somewhere” ability of teams in the past. The Super Bowl and defensive pieces Veach got as a result are starting to make it very clear that the Chiefs won the Hill trade. | |
| 4. | Lions | +1 | 6-2 | After quite the week 9, the Detroit Lions have retained their #2 position in the NFC and currently possess a 1 1⁄2 game division lead over the Minnesota Vikings. Coming out of their bye, Detroit will be heading to Los Angeles to face a Chargers team who just dispatched the New York Jets despite putting up less than 200 total yards. The Lions are expected to welcome back some key pieces to the fold, with RB David Montgomery, as well as pro-bowl OLs Frank Ragnow and Jonah Jackson on track to return to play. Along with these crucial pieces, Detroit adds WR Donovan Peoples-Jones to the squad via a deadline trade with Cleveland. DPJ, who went to high school 0.9 miles from Ford Field, gives Detroit more options in both the red-zone and on field-stretching routes, along with a willingness to block when called upon and special teams contributions. All of these additions should bring renewed deadliness to an offense that struggled in the red-zone last time out, so look for Detroit to bring some smash mouth efficiency to short-yardage situations and don’t be surprised if DPJ gets a chance on a deep shot or a red-zone 1-on-1 in his first game for his childhood team. | |
| 5. | Dolphins | -1 | 6-3 | We gave ourselves a real chance to beat the #1 seed Kansas City Chiefs at the end of our game, but we once again shot ourselves in the foot with two back to back mental mistakes. Plaxico Burress had nothing on us as we shot ourselves in the leg over and over and over again whether it was by miscommunications, dropped passes, bad snaps, avoidable penalties, or not getting plays called in time. Our defense on the other hand was superb. It was the first time all year any defense shut out the Chiefs in a half of football. Granted the Chiefs have had issues on offense this year, they still are the 6th ranked offense by DVOA, still have Mahomes under center, and we managed to hold their offense to 14 points. At 6-3 and still leading our division, we enter the bye week in great shape as we hopefully work on not shooting ourselves in foot as much against above .500 teams. | |
| 6. | Jaguars | – | 6-2 | While enjoying the bye week by adding a bit of depth to their offensive line, the Jaguars experienced a joy second only to winning: A Titans loss. The '9ers better be ready, because these cats are hungry. Meow, meow! 😼 | |
| 7. | Bengals | +4 | 5-3 | The Bengals have put their slow start behind them with four straight wins, but they still find themselves at the bottom of the best division in the NFL. The Bengals defense is currently replying on takeaways as the Bengals have the best overall turnover differential in the NFL. They will need to continue takign care of the ball and forcing turnovers to slow down the suddenly high-powered Texans offense on Sunday. | |
| 8. | Cowboys | -1 | 5-3 | You know that meme where you have a list of different amounts of animals and you have to pick two to defend you while the rest try to kill you? It turns out, even if you pick the lion and the archer, you can’t beat 53 eagles and seven zebras. This was possibly the most eggregioulsy, one sided, awfully officiated I’ve ever watched, and I’ve watched a lot of awful games. From DPI on a completely uncatchable ball to a picked up flag on hands to the face to allowing tackles before catches to allowing a vicious shot to the QB’s head while being sacked, it was just inexcusable. This game was decided by dudes with whistles, not dudes with helmets. | |
| 9. | 49ers | – | 5-3 | The 49ers leadership spent the bye week on shoring up the defensive unit that has regressed during the last few games. Firstly, Lynch sent out a 3rd round pick for high profile Pass Rusher Chase Young to slide in opposite Bosa. The other changes were regarding depth, especially in the secondary, with multiple members opening their IR window, and having practices with possible free agent signings. The team looks to improve next week on the road in Jacksonville. | |
| 10. | Bills | -2 | 5-4 | How many times can you shoot yourself in the foot? The Bills were outplayed, and still saw chance after chance to stay in the game, and could just never capitalize. This was a sloppy game —and unfortunately one of the most important. This loss could have huge implications come playoff time. More importantly, this defense keeps getting thinner and thinner. Already down two All-Pros in Milano and White, they saw another in Micah Hyde go down on a blatant, uncalled late hit, as well as injuries to their second corner and linebacker. The Bills should likely still be a playoff team, but it’s gonna be a much tougher road now. | |
| 11. | Seahawks | -1 | 5-3 | In solidarity with the Seattle Seahawks, it has been decided that I will take this week off. See you all next week! | |
| 12. | Browns | – | 5-3 | The Browns helmed by QB Watson finally earned some of that landmark contract. The Browns defense obliterated the Cardinals. The Browns are still in third in what is proving to be a very tough division. The Browns will face the Ravens next week in Baltimore. The Browns? The Browns. | |
| 13. | Chargers | – | 4-4 | For the second week in a row, the Chargers gave their fans a game in which they could relax their buttcheeks for the 4th quarter. In what honestly might be the first time in a few years, they did it with defense and special teams alone. A lot of Chargers fans were just praying for a win no matter how ugly and boy did they get it, with Herbert setting a career low in passing yards in a blow out win. Beggars can’t be choosers here and its good to see the Bolts get back to 0.500. | |
| 14. | Steelers | +2 | 5-3 | "If the season ended today…", a famous phrase that is often invoked early. That said, if the season ended today, the entire AFC North w… |
