At my last job, I made a salary that was equivalent to about $40/hour. I'm very confused, though, after hearing all my progressive friends saying that without a minimum wage, every company would participate in a race to the bottom to pay everyone as little as possible.

Maybe they just mean non-salaried people. Must be magic. Why else would a company that required experience and a graduate degree pay me more than the bare minimum? It's not like I could just go to their competitor who would offer more given the demand in the sector.
