Yes, McDaniels is a bad HC and likely a person of questionable moral character, and he absolutely should’ve been fired, but to say that he was a bad OC and that he was carried by Brady is just wrong based on the two seasons without him in New England
With Brady gone and replaced by Cam Newton, the Patriots had the 27th offense by PPG but the 4th best rushing offense - while 27th is not good at all Cam Newton’s arm was completely gone and they had bottom 2 QB play most of the year where Cam couldn’t hit a target 5 yards in front of him. To get anything going on offense with that is a testament to McDaniel’s ability.
In 2021, with rookie Mac Jones who has looked unspectacular with BoB this year and with the Rocket Man himself last year, McDaniels got the 14th best passing offense, 8th best rushing offense, and ultimately 6th best scoring offense. Josh McDaniels took whatever ragtag group that New England had to near a top-5 offensive unit in the NFL - a sign of an elite offensive coordinator.
Was Mr. McFraud himself carried somewhat by Brady? Yes, but he was also a very good OC in his own right and would likely be good if he was just limited to that role
