Original Title: The day before the 1946 NFL Championship game a story broke that 2 Giants players including QB Frank Filchock were offered bribes to lose to the Bears by at least 10 points. Filchock was allowed to play but threw 6 INTs as the Giants lost by exactly 10 points.

There was no evidence that Filchock had accepted or even been offered the bribe. It later came out that a bet had been placed in his name for the Giants to win their final game of the '46 season and he had reluctantly accepted the winnings. He was suspended for the next 3 years ('47-49)
Filchock was a rising star who had split time with Sammy Baugh in Washington before being traded to the Giants and had twice led the league in TD passes (11 in '39 and 14 in '44) but had led the league with 25 INTs in his only year with the Giants. He would go on to play and coach in the CFL but only played one more NFL game (in 1950 with the original Colts franchise after his suspension was lifted). He would later be the first head coach in Broncos history.
