Without going too far into the technicalities of the tiebreakers in the big ten east, if Penn State beats Michigan and Michigan beats Ohio State, there will be a 3 way tie for the big ten east.

In this scenario, it’ll come down to the combined records of cross divisional opponents, which are as follows…

Michigan: Nebraska, Minnesota, and Purdue

Ohio State: Purdue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota

Penn State: Illinois, Iowa, and Northwestern

For this scenario to play out, let’s say Penn State’s cross divisional record is the worst, so it really just comes down to Ohio State and Michigan.

The only opponents they don’t have in common are Nebraska (for Michigan) and Wisconsin (for Ohio State).

Nebraska and Wisconsin play on November 18th.

For the sake of this scenario, let’s also say both teams win every game aside from the one they play against each other. That would mean that the outcome of that game would determine who wins the east. Whats even funnier is if Wisconsin wins that game, it would mean Ohio State would be going to the big ten championship because they would own the 3 way tie breaker, despite having just lost of Michigan.

The odds of this happening are pretty long, but its still technically possible!
