FSU’s defense has been flying a little bit under the radar this season, but they are posting some truly spectacular stats.

The pass defense has been a force:

  • Only 3 passing TDs surrendered all season.
  • No passing TDs surrendered in October.
  • In October opposing QBs only completed 41.7% of their passes vs FSU, and for only 4.2 yards per completion.
  • The only team in the nation forcing more incompletions than completions.
  • The last time a P5 team held its opponents below 50 percent completions in a season was 2018, when Michigan and LSU posted marks of 49.5 and 49.7 percent, respectively.
  • FSU has held four consecutive opponents to fewer than 140 passing yards, the longest streak by the Seminoles since 1999 and the longest by an ACC team since Boston College in 2021 (via ESPN Stats & Info).

Edit: Additional context.

There are only 3 teams in the nation completing fewer than 50% of their passes:

  • #131 Army at 48.31%
  • #132 Navy at 46.74%
  • #133 Iowa at 44.15%

Two of those teams run the option, and the third is Iowa. FSU’s opponents in October were hardly world beaters, but they were still held to a combined completion percentage nearly 2 percentage points lower than the worst passing offense in the nation.
