Original Title: [OC] Target share stats: Puka Nacua leads with 36.1%; five teams have a target share over 50% across two players; Jakobi Meyers at 23.7% is the highest for a number two WR…and other target share nuggets.

I pulled together the target share stats for every play this season. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do with this information, but I was curious and wanted to share my findings. I looked at the top players, teams who have the highest share across 2, 3, and 4 players. The top share for number 2, 3, and 4 players on a team. I’m not implying anything about high target share being good (leading to more success) or being bad (spreading the ball around is better), just sharing the data.

Led by Puka Nacua, eight players have a target share above 30%, including Davante Adamas, who has been vocal about not seeing enough balls. The median target share for the #1 player on a team is 26.1%.

The next three tables show the top teams for target share across two, three, and four players. It’s a little bit boring, since they mostly repeat, but individual target shares and team medians, are listed for some additional context.

Between Puka and Tutu, the Rams have a 55.1% target share (median 44.9%). Five teams are at 50%+ across two players.

The Eagles have a leading target share across three players with 72.8% between AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert. The NFL median is 59.5%.

Not surprising, the Eagles repeat as the target share leaders when a 4th player is added (D’Andre Swift (13.2%). The NFL median is 71.3%.

The next three charts show the top target share for the 3nd, 3rd, and 4th highest player on the tea, in terms of target share.

When looking at the 2nd highest target share on a team, the median share is 18%. 11 players have more than 20%. Here are the top five number two players, led by Jakobi Meyers at 23.7%

The Jaguars really spread it around with a 20%+ target share across three guys (Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, Calvin Ridley). They’re the only 20-20-20 team in the NFL. The median for the number three player is 14.5%.

The median 4th pass catcher has a target share of 11.3%. Here are the top five in this category, led by Christian McCaffrey with a target share of 16.2%.

There you go.

Interesting data to me, but what does it mean?
