SMU operates an organized tailgate in the middle of campus known as “Boulevarding.”

The idea was brought to campus in 2000 by SMU President, Gerald Turner, who was formerly the Chancellor at Ole Miss. He liked the Grove so much that he implemented basically the same idea in Dallas.

At the weekly coach’s radio show on Wednesday, Head Coach Rhett Lashlee suggested that fans head back to the Boulevard *after* the game and tailgate all afternoon, due to the limited opportunity to tailgate before the 11am kickoff. He called the idea “Reverse Boulevarding.”

I posted the recording of Lashlee’s suggestion on Twitter and it got a fair amount of interest from fans. Now the Deputy Athletic Director and the Head Coach are both tweeting about it, encouraging fans to party all afternoon for this weekend’s homecoming game against Tulsa.

I’ve never seen a post-game “tailgate,” per-se. Sure, after parties, local bars, clubs, etc., but not at the tailgate spot. Do any other schools do something like this?
