Covering all of Araki’s trademark motifs (existential dread, youth culture, science fiction, queerness), Now Apocalypse successfully displays the filmmaker’s bizarre creativity and experimentation. It’s bold and campy, ridiculous and self-aware, in its exploration of a philosophizing pot-head who believes the aliens have landed in LA. And in true Araki fashion, it has a carefully curated soundtrack that might as well be essential-listening for anyone new to shoegaze. The show’s on Tubi, btw.
