This was kind of my experience with Breaking Bad. I didn’t watch it for a long time because anyone who said anything even slightly negative about it would immediately be insulted or told it was objectively perfect. When I finally did watch it, it and the prequel Better Call Saul quickly became two of my favorite shows. I still don’t really like calling myself a fan, though. To pretend something is perfect can really make someone not want to see the show, especially if you’re going to insult anyone who says otherwise.
But I’m curious about other examples. I’ve heard people express similar sentiments to Avatar: The Last Airbender.
