I’m 2 and a half episodes into Mobland and I’ve come to the realization I was naive to assume that it was going to be something quite special. One of the last series I remember that had any real sophistication to it was the first season of True Detective and that was a long time ago
What do I mean by sophistication? I mean when the creators of shows made it a priority for what was taking place to be incredibly realistic and believable. If anyone has watched The Wire series, this is what I’m talking about. Even The Sopranos, which had its flaws and dipped in quality at certain points, it wasn’t a perfect show from start to finish but it at least attempted to make everything realistic and believable
I assumed when I saw the cast that Mobland was about to be a gritty and realistic crime drama but what the actual fuck is going on with entertainment now? Why is so much material being produced just contrived & silly? It feels like it’s been written by a 20 year old
The opening scene starts off with a lad stabbing a guy in the middle of a club in front of about 130 witnesses, CCTV and then fleeing the scene. Yeah this shit can happen sometimes but it seemed a bit ridiculous
The script is bad, dialogues bad. There’s a bloke who’s about 70 who’s talking in a household crime meeting about the family’s operations and he refers to some tension between two people as “beef”… What 60-70 year old man uses the word beef? It just doesn’t take place, it’s not realistic at all. Even gangsters who are that age don’t use this slang. It shows laziness or just lack of insight or imagination from the writers. It shows a lack of it truly attempting to be believable
I feel like entertainment is just getting lazy now and audiences seem to be too easily pleased and so they’re able to get away with it. Why can’t we just have a solid crime drama with realism being one of the top priorities?
Entertainment is just getting corny and cheap thesedays
