A suspected shooter is dead after police responded to chaos at a high school ice hockey match in Rhode Island.
Panicked families fled the scene at Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket after shots were fired on Monday afternoon.
The shooter has been identified as Robert Dorgan, 56, a transgender woman who went by the name Roberta Esposito.
After the shooting, a woman who claimed to be Dorgan’s daughter said the shooter had ‘mental health issues’.
There’s still no clear motive, but court documents obtained by local news station WPRI showed that Dorgan had argued with family over gender identity issues previously.
One of the victims is believed to be Dorgan’s ex-wife, Rhonda, along with a family friend, but police have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased.
The shooting brutally interrupted a hockey game between high school rivals Coventry and Blackstone Valley.
The Pawtucket mayor’s office confirmed a girl had been killed in the shooting.
