Currently watching the show on Blu-ray & I’m still so impressed by it. The amount of craft put into the animation, design, music & voice acting is unlike most shows at the time.

A majority of the shows were long ads to sell toys. People worked hard on them for sure. There was level of disposability though that was inherent to the format. Kids (mostly) have no attention spans so just make it bright, loud & cheap.

Lots of corners were cut. Time hasn’t been kind to the quality of animation on a lot of them.

BTAS also stands out because of how mature & how un-kid friendly it can feel at times. It’s frequent dark brooding nature & striking Art Deco don’t scream fun for children. Not to mention the number of episodes that could be light on Batman appearing at all.

It’s remarkable the amount of creative leeway they had. I’m very grateful they were allowed it & that it was able to launch the DCAU.
