We officially entered the offseason this week, so it is that time of year again for Bucs fans to spread Lavonte David propaganda- quite possibly for the last time before he retires. He has has come a long way with an incredible career since starting off at Fort Scott Community College (where he faced off against Cam Newton in the championship game).
With 1,172 solo tackles in his career, he trails only Ray Lewis (1,568), London Fletcher (1,384), and Derrick Brooks (1,300).
At 177 tackles for a loss, which were first tracked in 1999, he trails only Terrell Suggs (202), Calais Campbell (196), and JJ Watt (195). He is tied with Von Miller. Notably, David is the only off-ball linebacker in the top 16 before Urlacher at 17.
Another cool fact is that if Lavonte David does indeed retire this offseason, he finishes as the Bucs’ all time leader in combined tackle with 1,716, only 3 more than Derrick Brooks at 1,713. Both players would have spent their entire 14 year careers in Tampa.
Besides the tackles, David has also amassed 14 interceptions, 33 forced fumbles, and 42.5 sacks in his career.
