I have enjoyed all of these series…but Mad Men, Ozark & Breaking Bad so much more than shows like Poldark or Succession.
I realized it had to do with the script development…the first three are written to develop a story over time…and so I remain engaged to see where the story, the characters and their actions are going…
the latter two just roll from manufactured crisis or subplot…then it gets resolved and we move to the next crisis and then that gets resolved…I can remain interested for only so long, until I tire of the series of crises.
Is there a name for these types of scripts?
Do you have any other examples of the first type? That’s the type I most enjoy.
