How popular was The Arsenio Hall Show at it’s peak?

I’ve recently been watching old clips of The Arsenio Hall Show on YouTube.

It’s one of those shows that still holds up to this day, and from what I’ve heard, the show itself was a HUGE juggernaut, and sometimes defeated Johnny Carson in the ratings (I could be wrong on that though).

All in all, It was the perfect landing pad for the MTV Generation, and Arsenio was the ideal frontman.

For anyone who watched Arsenio’s show back in the day, just how popular was his show?
