Seems to me that despite all its defects, including many totally ludicrous plot points, and definitely deterioration in the later seasons, that 24 was and remains the closest thing to televised crack that’s ever been created.

It seems to be mostly driven by two things: the clock mechanic, and Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, clearly the role he was born to play. You somehow believe him, even if we wouldn’t believe the story if we thought about it for too long.

I really can’t think of any other show that has the same level of “just one more episode” effect… but maybe I’m missing some?
