Although it felt like a quarter of the FBS backed up the brinks for new head coaches last year, a few ADs with beleaguered teams—Wisconsin, Baylor, Maryland, Florida State, surely I’m forgetting some others—announced their (frankly respectable) intentions to keep their guy and, in a couple of cases, stated specifically that they’d be increasing investment. This implied that they would be throwing more money at the portal and high school recruiting, as well as contributing more to player development… whatever that means.

So, now that we’ve had a signing day, presumably a few assistant coaching changes, and most notably the lone portal window has opened and closed, how are sources inside your program feeling, and also how are you feeling about what you’ve seen so far? I looked at portal rankings and have some guesses, but I’d love to hear from you. I genuinely hope this strategy works out for a couple of schools so we’ve got, um, a sane development roadmap for the teams who might be pining for their own Cignettis.
