Game of Thrones was a huge success, regardless of how it stuck the landing. Very few major properties get spinoffs and of those they never live up to the original. Yet House of the Dragon came along and it’s an incredible show. I honestly enjoy it more than GoT in a lot of ways. When Knight of the Seven Kingdoms came along I had low expectations - another spinoff, stop milking the property was my thought. But the first two episodes have been some of the best TV I’ve seen in years. It’s funny, it’s thoughtful, it’s heartwarming, and it’s incredibly well acted and produced.
I honestly am so impressed and heartened by what HBO has done here. I have always wished more shows did spinoffs instead of just driving a show into the ground and ruining its good name. What they’ve done with ASOIAF should be an example for other networks.
