There are a lot of TV shows that are filler shows. They fill time with people you know as an easy way to find an audience. The Equalizer, Tracker, The Rookie, The Bachelor, Brilliant Minds. Landman is similar. Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Sam Elliot. Season 2 was largely filler.
Then episode 10 comes along and shows how good this series can be. The last 20 minutes is excellent. It sets up Season 3 quite well. Spoilers ahead.
It ends with the family creating a new oil company backed by the ruthless drug dealer because no one thinks Demi Moore has the ability to lead an oil company. They are relying on the intuition of Cooper to land enough wells to keep everyone happy. The team comes together, agrees to work together, agrees to have everyone’s back, and off they go to build the next big oil company in Texas. It’s a solid ending to a choppy season.
I’m pulling for Cooper in season 2. If we starts hitting wells, I wonder how money will change him. Maybe he slowly becomes the people he despises. It would be interesting look at someone going from oil rigger to oilman. As he’s become more bitter and cynical, his fiancee can help keep his head on straight.
