Holy shit.
I just finished the third season on Mr. Inbetween, and it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Ray Shoesmith is one of my favorite characters in any piece of media ever. The complexity of his character, and the way he interacts with the world around him, is absolutely enthralling.
It gets off to a slightly slow start in the first season, but once it picks up it stays up. At first, I was put off by the semi-vignette style storytelling, but it absolutely got its hooks into me. There’s not a moment of wasted screentime, and not a single bit of bad acting or writing. Every character plays their role so well. I loved Ray, Gaz, Ally, Zoe, Britt, Bruce, just all of them.
Every bit of dark comedy lands perfectly, every bit of tension is played out perfectly, and every emotional moment lands like a sucker punch. I cried multiple times over the course of the show, for reasons that I won’t spoil.
I can’t even properly put into words just how much this show hooked me in. If you’re at all interested in dark, character-driven everyday gangster/crime drama/comedy, do yourself a favor and check it out.
How is this show not more talked about?
