I tried googling this and all it feeds me are horse related mascots or schools that have a live horse as a mascot and Gemini is so useless.
I feel like it’s common to have horse variants as mascots in sports. Boise State Broncos, UT Martin Pacers up till '95, Western Michigan Broncos, SMU Mustangs, Murray State Racers, Kentucky State Thorobreds, and then of course Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts. Not to mention countless High School, Middle School and Elementary mascots. But where are the just plain horses mascots?
It’s common to see Bear variants but Bear itself is a common team name. It’s not like birds where the term is too vague, most people think of roughly the same thing when you say the word “Horse”.
Is it because it’s too close to a certain inappropriate word? I feel like that’s not a big enough reason.
EDIT: This is getting dire, seriously nobodies heard of a local rec league team, their old elementary school, a foreign team where Horse has a different connotation?
The closest we’ve gotten is Shuylerville HS who often shorthands their official mascot Black Horses as just Horses on uniforms and their media posts.
EDIT 2: FC Horses was a former Soccer club in Slovakia but have ceased to exist as of 2016 which shockingly was 10 years ago.
