Movies made for television seem to be a dead art form. Back in the day one might find high profile films, produced expressly for television (and not merely picked up or acquired from a festival or something), airing on the major broadcast networks or biggest basic cable channels. Additionally, you’d also find films being made for premium cable on HBO or like Showtime. Now the line has blurred. Films premiering on streaming on not really substantively different from those in theaters. Yet award shows will lump in these films all together.

So…I’m looking for tv movies (from like the 1960s-2010s) that caused a big stir. Either for the content or subject matter they were covering or something in regards to their production.

This is an entire genre of film that has gone the way of the dodo and most of which will probably be forgotten. Also open to hearing any recommendations for some lost gems.
