These are the players well in their 30s, past their best, that still played (surprisingly) good. They probably won’t get All-Pro accolades, but have added some significant stats to their career totals. On some of these positions there are many candidates and a logjam to get into the HOF.
Some such players:
- Von Miller, at age 36 for Commanders had 9 sacks, pushed career total to 138.5 (around Suggs, Ware) and 6 TFL (career total 177 is #4 all time); he has a very bad reputation off the field
- Cameron Jordan, at age 36 for Saints had 10.5 sacks, career total 132 (around Abraham, L. O’Neal) and 15 TFL (total 175 is #7 all time around Donald, Peppers)
- Calais Campbell, at age 39 for Cardinals had 5.5 sacks, total 117, which is rare for DT-DE (ahead of him DTs Alan Page, Clyde Simmons) and 9 TFL (total 196 is #2 all time)
- Cam Heyward, at age 36 for Steelers had 3.5 sacks (career total 92) and 9 TFL (total 142 is #15 all time)
- Byard, at age 32 for Bears had 7 interceptions, career total 36 (leads active players)
- Lavonte David, at age 35 for Bucs had 61 solo tackles, career total 1172 is #4 all time; he had 8 TFL (career total 177, #4 all time) and 3.5 sacks (total 42.5), rare for LBs; his stats are ahead of
- B. Wagner, at age 35 for Commanders had 79 solo tackles (total 1150 is #5 all time), 8 TFL (career total 107), 4.5 sacks (career total 39.5)
- Demario Davis, at age 36 for Saints had 64 solo tackles (total 951) with 6 TFL (career total 116) and 0.5 sacks (career total 45)
- Davante Adams, at age 33 for Rams had 14 TDs (career total 117 is #7 all time) and 789 yards (total 12633 is #26); he is fighting against Hopkins, M. Evans, Tyreek Hill, Julio Jones,…
- S. Diggs at age 32 for Patriots had 4 TDs (career 74, the same as Holt) and 1013 yards (total 11504)
- M. Stafford just before his 38th birthday for Rams had a career-best season: 46 TDs (career total 423 is around Rivers, Marino) and 4707 yards (total 64516 is between Rodgers and Roethlisberger)
- by demand of Vikings’ fans: H. Smith, at age 36 for Vikings had 2 interceptions (career total 39) and 1 sack (total 21.5); he is 1 of 6 safeties with 35/20, the other 5 are HOFers
- won’t mention T. Kelce, D. Henry, A. Rodgers as they will be in the HOF anyway
Unfortunately, probably only a few of these players will be HOFers as there aren’t enough spots available for everyone.
Edit: this post is meant to admire what these players achieved at an old age.
For those that only count All-Pro selections and are sure that some player with 3-4 All-Pro first teams will be in, but another with only 1 won’t, here is a list of players with few All-Pros:
Staubach, Moon, Rivers, R. Wilson, I. Bruce (each only once AP-2 team); Roethlisberger, Aikman (0); Bradshaw, M. Ryan, John Riggins (once AP-1); Ken Anderson, J. Kelly, S. Smith (once AP-1, once AP-2); WR Fitzgerald (once AP-1 & twice AP-2), … current RB candidates for the Hall of Fame: Gore, F. Taylor (once AP-2 each); Watters (0); Steven Jackson (twice AP-2); Lynch (once AP-1, once AP-2); L. McCoy (twice AP-1)
Some players not in the HOF with many All-Pro accolades:
- Steve Wisniewski 2x AP-1 & 5x AP-2
- Kevin Williams 5x AP-1
- Sharper 2x AP-1 & 4x AP-2 (a rapist)
- Antonio Brown 4x AP-1 & 1x AP-2 (not eligible yet, but many think he has no chance)
So, by All-Pros players such as Gore, L. Fitzgerald would have no chance.
If it’s accepted that players with off the field problems won’t get in, why is Von Miller, who was suspended during his career because of choking his girlfriend, a sure thing? How is he better than A. Brown?

Are you sure that he won’t repeat this?
