*This is a weekly thread to discuss football in the Big 12. Discussion should be limited to football in the conference.*

Week 7 Results
  • Houston 41 - West Virginia 39

What a wild ride in the Dana Bowl. The win probability chart on ESPN is bonkers to see with the wild swings right at the end of the game. I know these types of games are super stressful for the teams and their fans, but man are these fun to watch with no rooting interest. WVU hadn’t really looked dominant in their games, but they seemed to just find a way to win up until this one. This game really helps to muddy the tiers. And I know that we’re all really just here for the tiers.

  • Iowa State 30 - Cincinnati 10

The second “we’re not really sure what to expect” game of the weekend was apparently the first ever meeting between these two teams. Is Iowa State starting to figure out who they are as a team? It kinda seems like they’re settling into the season merely a month after dropping the game against Ohio. Maybe they can make a run at the CCG? I think they control their own destiny, so there’s still plenty to play for.

  • Oklahoma State 39 - #23 Kansas 32

Another team who is seemingly on the up-and-up after getting absolutely embarrassed a month ago, Oklahoma State is starting to look good with their trendsetting “one-quarterback” scheme. I’ve never really had anything against either of these football teams, so this was another enjoyable game for us neutrals. Hopefully Kansas can bounce back from this one and maybe cause some chaos, since that’s the only thing that some of us can root for at this point.

  • TCU 44 - BYU 11

Just an unfortunate outcome. I was, of course, hoping BYU could beat their old Mountain West foe in Cowtown. Instead TCU blew them out at home for a classic football score of 44-11 with a new QB getting his first start. At least it was BYU and not us getting the “first time starter” voodoo from TCU. I’m sure we’ll find our own way to lose this year.

  • Kansas State 38 - Texas Tech 21

Avery Johnson, somehow back in college to play quarterback for K-State, ran away from Tech to the tune of 90 yards and five touchdowns. And he also threw the ball a handful of times. You can tell this guy likes playing in Collin Klein’s offense. Maybe he can revive my preseason pick of KSU winning the CCG. Not that I necessarily want KSU to win - I just want to be right.

I started looking for data to help me with the tiers since I can’t watch every game (especially weeks when Baylor is at home). I looked at data from CFP Resume Rankings. It’s a data driven evaluation of resumes mixed in with strength ratings, which is what I was trying to do anyway. It’s not far off from where I already was.

I could possibly put OU and UT at 1 and 1A, but sub-tiers bother me as they’re just the next tier. Plus there was plenty of salt about it last week, and salt is what gives CFB that bold flavor that we all love.

Championship Picks

I’ll stick with OU for now, but I’m watching for K-State to work their way back in. Like I said earlier, that’s mostly to justify my preseason pick for them to repeat.
