I’ve recently finished a dutch tv series (Sleepers) that mainly takes place in my hometown. It’s great to be immersed in a series which features and integrates real restaurants, landmarks and streets I pass through daily. However, in some scenes, particularly a car chase, the route continuity doesn’t make any sense at all/ is all over the place. The accent from one actor is clearly off if you notice her place of birth in a police file etc.
Is it common for series that take place where you live, to get things like these wrong?
I’ve noticed before that foreign series often have a stand-in set or city for familiar European cities or far away counties. It throws me off to see an old Fiat car in the Soviet Union instead of a Lada, but I can handle that. For my hometown it just hits differently I guess. Is this a common nuisance for say, people from LA, NYC or other places that are popular for filming?
