Exclusive: Global, which owns the likes of Classic FM, is adding the former England and Man Utd defender’s business to its portfolio

The media business The Overlap, founded by Gary Neville, including its flagship show Stick to Football, has been taken into the portfolio of the commercial radio giant Global, which owns Classic FM, Capital, Heart and LBC, among others.

Global has acquired a majority stake in The Overlap from its previous investors, Miroma Group. The race for content among the largest media groups means that this is the second time that a majority stake has been sold in The Overlap, founded in 2021, and featuring some of the biggest names in British sport.

The Overlap, which also produces fan debates and interviews, as well as spin-offs, had total assets of around £406,000 in its most recent results for the financial year up to June 30, 2024. It is understood that the investment from Global will go back into the business, developing more brands and channels, chiefly covering football content.
