I've seen a ton of people on our side cheer on the calls to abolish (or defund) the police, or even poke fun at the fact that doing so makes gun control (and other laws invasive and antithetical to property ownership) far more difficult. Here's why I think the opposite is the case.

The majority of local departments would refuse to enforce such laws. Even if it weren't for ethical or moral reasons, local cops tend to be known in their communities. Any of them who tried to enforce such things would risk facing a mob of armed locals on their front yards. Do you really think they'd risk their own, or their families own safety to enforce such laws?

The statists understand that defunding and restricting local forces will increase crime exponentially, which increases the demand for police presence. But their solution will not be to ramp up funding to local departments, it will be to establish a national police force, which many of them have already called for. Federal forces have a proven track record of using extreme, unwarranted and violent force against the population with minimal justification.

If they succeed, expect daily Waco, Ruby Ridge, or Bundy Ranch style incidents. They're already laying the groundwork, it's coming.
