With the release of Stranger Things season 5, Ive found myself involved in several conversations on lore and universe-building as essential components of good writing.

One aspect that’s emerged within these conversations was the internal inconsistencies in the usage of the show‘s more fantastical elements such as the behaviors of the demogorgians (sometimes they chase and kill characters indiscriminately while other times they slow down and “sneak” so that another character can burst in last minute and kill them) and Vecna (who has insane powers yet chooses not to use them in several situations where this would allow him to neutralize threats and/or kill characters who would be a danger to his future plans).

This made me realize how important consistent universe-building and internal logic is to my appreciation of a show. It also made me wonder what kinds of shows do this best.

Thus, what supernatural / fantastical shows do you think are the best representation of this internal consistency - where characters / creatures with non-natural powers act reasonably and reliably with respect to their fantastical elements?
