First, I want to make it clear that I’m not racist. What I’ve noticed, especially on TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms, is that Disney seems to be trying to prove it isn’t racist by changing the race of characters in live-action remakes of classic films. For example, Ariel was cast as a Black woman, Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White, and even Tinker Bell’s portrayal felt very different from the original.

My issue isn’t with diversity itself. The problem is that many people who grew up watching these Disney movies simply want the live-action characters to resemble the original animated versions they remember and love. These characters are iconic, and changing them can feel like altering the stories people are emotionally attached to.

Instead of rewriting existing characters, Disney could create entirely new princesses, princes, and storylines that naturally include diversity—such as Indian, Black, or other underrepresented cultures—without changing classic characters. That way, representation can grow without taking away from the original stories that shaped so many childhoods.
