The prize was initially going to be just $1K but was recently increased to $20K after the attention it got on social media.
Many people have been asking us, “Will there be an opportunity at the @trustandwill Holiday Bowl to win money by throwing a football into a casket?” The answer, surprisingly, is “Yes.”

I went and looked up the fine print to see how the contest will work because the twitter posts were a little vague. Looks like applicants answer the following question in their contest application:
What legacy do you want to leave behind? Tell us something unique to you
The answers are then judged by the sponsor for “creativity (50%)” and “authenticity (50%)” who picks one “winner” who then gets to attempt the throw:
One (1) winner will be selected to participate in the on-field “Inheritance Toss” activity at the Holiday Bowl game. During a designated break in the game (timing at Sponsor’s sole discretion), the winner will have one (1) opportunity to throw a ball from approximately fifteen (15) yards at an oversized target (the “Target”). Sponsor may, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, allow for additional opportunities to hit the Target. If the winner successfully hits the Target, they will receive Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) in cash, awarded on-field at the game (the “Grand Prize”). Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of the Grand Prize: $10,000.
If the winner does not successfully hit the Target, no prize will be awarded. Sponsor may, in its sole and absolute discretion, choose to provide a gift or other consideration to the winner, but is under no obligation to do so.
The winner is solely responsible for all costs associated with attending the Holiday Bowl game, including but not limited to travel, transportation, lodging, meals, parking, and game tickets. Sponsor will not reimburse or cover any such costs under any circumstances.
One (1) second winner will be selected if the first winner successfully completes the on-field “Inheritance Toss” activity and hits the Target (“Second Winner”). The Second Winner will receive payment of $10,000 upon receipt of a completed W-9 to Sponsor.
