Here are the combined travel distances for the NY6 bowls since 2014.

Year Combined travel distance (mi)
2014 8,058
2015 10,221
2016 12,124
2017 10,951
2018 11,415
2019 10,622
2020 8,069
2021 9,929
2022 9,849
2023 12,363
2024 12,369
2025 14,601 (min) - 16,643 (max)

These are one-way distances, as the crow flies, from the city in which each team’s home stadium is located, to the city in which the bowl game is held. I used this website to calculate them. This is just including the 6 bowls which comprise the NY6; the first round and the national championship are not included. The minimum is the scenario where Ohio State and Ole Miss play in the Fiesta, while Alabama and Texas Tech play in the Peach. Likewise, the maximum is where Miami (FL) and Georgia play in the Fiesta, and Indiana and Oregon play in the Peach.

Some more stats:

  • Oregon’s 2,689 mi travel distance from Eugene to Miami Gardens is the record for a single team for a single NY6 bowl (since 2014)
  • This is the first Orange Bowl of all time where both teams are located farther west than Norman
  • This is the second Cotton Bowl of all time where both teams are located at least as far east as Columbus (other instance was 1939 Clemson vs Boston College)
  • This is the third Rose Bowl of all time where both teams are located at least as far east as Tuscaloosa (other instances were 2020 Alabama vs Notre Dame and 2023 Michigan vs Alabama)
