I created a similar thread regarding this topic earlier, but I unfortunately left out the phrasing “Last 16 Quarterbacks”, so people got furious about it since John Elway, Len Dawson, Jim Kelly, Bob Griese, Craig Morton, and Fran Tarkenton have made it back to the Super Bowl after losing their debut Super Bowl appearance, but I wasn’t referring to those guys as that was over 2 decades ago, and are not part of the last 16 quarterbacks list. This time I’m making sure that I do intentionally don’t leave that out. Anyway, there’s this curse that’s been going on for 2 decades that the last straight 16 quarterbacks that have lost their debut Super Bowl appearance have never made it back to the Super Bowl. The quarterbacks listed are as follows:

  1. Jimmy Garoppolo - Lost Super Bowl 54 debut appearance, hasn’t made it back (I know he won 2 rings with the Patriots, but he wasn’t the starter)
  2. Jared Goff - Lost Super Bowl 53 debut appearance, hasn’t made it back
  3. Matt Ryan- Lost Super Bowl 51 debut appearance, never made it back
  4. Cam Netwon- Lost Super Bowl 50 debut appearance, never made it back
  5. Colin Kaepernick - Lost Super Bowl 47 debut appearance, never made it back
  6. Rex Grossman - Lost Super Bowl 41 debut appearance, never made it back
  7. Matt Hasselbeck - Lost Super Bowl 40 debut appearance, never made it back
  8. Donovan McNabb - Lost Super Bowl 39 debut appearance, never made it back
  9. Jake Delhomme - Lost Super Bowl 38 debut appearance, never made it back
  10. Rich Gannon - Lost Super Bowl 37 debut appearance, never made it back
  11. Kerry Collins - Lost Super Bowl 35 debut appearance, never made it back
  12. Steve McNair - Lost Super Bowl 34 debut appearance, never made it back
  13. Chris Chandler - Lost Super Bowl 33 debut appearance, never made it back
  14. Drew Bledsoe - Lost Super Bowl 31 debut appearance, never made it back ( Super Bowl 36 doesn’t count because Tom Brady was the starter)
  15. Neil O’Donnell - Lost Super Bowl 30 debut appearance, never made it back
  16. Stan Humphries - Lost Super Bowl 29 debut Super Bowl appearance, never made it back (Super Bowl 26 doesn’t count because Mark Rypien was the starter)

Now, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts are now among the list of quarterbacks that have lost their debut Super Bowl appearance and part of the remaining 4 active quarterbacks that have done it. The other two are Jimmy Garappolo and Jared Goff.

Edit: I’ll take responsibility for the poor phrasing in my previous post and yes you guys had the right to call it out, but what I am going to say is I didn’t do it intentionally and that’s why I made this post to clear my mistakes.
