The new movie has a lot of traits of a Swan song, it focuses a lot on backstories and character relationships, and it brings back a lot of classic things that would be perfect for if it was intended to be basically the finale.
Plus, Nickelodeon knows the writing is on the wall for the series, it’s only got so many years left, and they have to start thinking about the post-SpongeBob years now, the loud house might’ve been a successor, But even that’s falling off a cliff, they have shows like rock paper scissors that they clearly want to experiment with, and I don’t think their plans involve SpongeBob.
So I think Nickelodeon plans to announce the cancellation of the main SpongeBob series within the next 1 to 3 years, and the spinoffs along with it
