Then I have the game for you.

The annual Anchor-Bone Classic is happening at 3 PM Eastern on Saturday, featuring D2 #4 Grand Valley State hosting arch-rival, two-time defending national champion, D2 #1 Ferris State.

This has been the most anticipated D2 game of the season for a few years now.

This is the 12th consecutive meeting between the two schools where both teams are ranked, and the fifth straight where both teams are ranked in the top six. Six of the last seven meetings have been decided by 7 points or less.

Last year, GVSU won the regular season matchup, 22-21, with a 4th down stop near midfield with about a minute left in the game at Ferris. In the playoffs, Ferris got their revenge, 24-21, with a game-winning field goal with 1:04 left to play, en route to their second straight national championship a few weeks later.

Both teams enter this year’s contest 4-1, with Ferris’ lone loss coming at the hands of FCS Montana in a close game, and GV’s lone loss came in week one against current #2 team, Colorado School of Mines.

Statistically, both teams are similar.

GV is averaging 49.6 points per game compared to Ferris’ 43.6. GV’s defense is allowing 21.6 points per game to Ferris’ 15.4. GV’s offense is averaging 494.4 yards of total offense per game (247.8 rush/246.6 pass) compared to Ferris’ 508.0 yards of total offense per game (276 rush/232 pass). The biggest difference between the teams comes in penalties, where GV is averaging 83.80 yards of penalties per game compared to Ferris’ D2-leading 127 yards per game.

One big factor for this week’s game, though, that might make it more or less appealing depending on what you prefer?

A lot of rain.

The stadium is currently forecast to be receiving rain for about 24 straight hours leading up to the game, and then all throughout the game. NWS Grand Rapids is currently projecting a little under 2" of rainfall for the area between Friday night and Saturday night, including an “all-day soaking rain” on Saturday along with 35+ mph winds.

The game can be received in a number of ways. It is available to stream on FloSports (blech, pay-to-watch site), and if you are in the West Michigan area it will be available to watch on WXSP on your TV. You can also listen to the game on a multitude of radio stations, including a Spanish broadcast.

You can listen to the GV call on 97 LAV or 106.1 The Ticket in West Michigan, or WLCS 98.3 in Muskegon. You can listen to GV’s Spanish language broadcast on La Poderosa 93.3 FM in West Michigan, 103.1 FM in Midland, or 1080 AM in Lansing. You can hear the Ferris broadcast on Sunny 97.3 FM in Big Rapids. You can listen to any of those stations online for free.

Anyway, I just like making a post about this game each year because it is, IMO, the most talented matchup every year lately in terms of coaching/ability/potential NFL talent outside of D1, and I think it deserves as many eyeballs as possible.
