My Name Is Earl is a great show for many reasons but I love it most because of the premise of a man striving to be a better person. As a result of his endeavors, he creates a more positive impact on the people and world around him. The original ending even set it up that, while Earl realizes crossing everything off his list is impossible, he inspires other people to make lists of their own. Overall it’s a heartwarming and uplifting show.

In a similar vein, Ted Lasso (as a tv show) has a premise rooted in taking on challenges from a healthy and growth oriented point of view. Striving to be the best they can be and doing so through kindness, curiousity, forgiveness, and community.

Even more so, while these shows have main characters who are chronically positive, they are also flawed and unbashedly so. Both Earl and Ted face some real struggles, having to come to terms with the consequences of their pasts, and challenges them to reconcile with others and within themselves. Throughout both of these shows we see how these characters grow into better people, and how they challenge the people around them to be better as well.

I feel like our culture needs more shows like this, what are your favorite shows in this regard?
