I have often wondered why some states have 2 (or more) schools that are either in the same conference or both in P5 conferences, while other states only have 1. For example, I went to Oklahoma State where there is OU and OSU, Kansas has KU and K-State, Iowa similarly has Iowa in the Big 10 and ISU in the Big 12, Ole Miss and MS State both in the SEC. But other states across the country aren’t so similar. Arkansas has Arkansas and really only Arkansas. Louisiana has LSU, and I know Tulane was once in the SEC, but still not another P5 school in the state. Nebraska has only Nebraska in the Big 10. Colorado is in the Pac while CSU is in the MW. I personally really like in-state matchups and feel that most states that have them, do enjoy them. I am wondering what the story is on why your state doesn’t have both school in a P5 or in the same conference? Was one brand just too big where the other school couldn’t compete? Left out due to conferences changing? One school not wanting to have to compete for recruits with another in-state school? Just curious.
