I was curious about only the Rams clinching a playoff spot if they win this week (it’s specifically because they would beat the Lions), and while looking into what sequence of events remain that could cause them to miss the playoff I stumbled into the possibility of a 4 way tie of 12 win teams for the 3 NFC Wild Card spots.
The scenario is:
- Lions win out
- Bears beat the Browns, Packers, 49ers. Lose to the Lions.
- Packers beat the Broncos, Ravens, Vikings. Lose to the Bears.
- 49ers beat the Titans, Colts, Seahawks. Lose to the Bears.
- Seahawks beat the Colts, Panthers. Lose to the 49ers.
- Rams beat the Falcons, Cardinals. Lose to the Lions.
NFC North Champ: Packers (12-4-1)
NFC West Champ: Rams or Seahawks (13-4) - Winner of Week 15 16 Thursday night game.
Wild Card: Four way tie at 12-5
- Rams or Seahawks
- 49ers
- Bears
- Lions
No idea how the tiebreakers would play out in that case, if anyone wants to give it a go.
