*Spoilers for 1923

I just kind of got a bit irritated with Alex in 1923 and I’m only halfway through the first season of the show. I’m on episode 6 I believe, where the boat has been flipped over where Alex and Spencer are sitting on the hull of the boat. Spencer has to go back under to get more gear and he tells Alex to sit right where she is. She acknowledges him, and then as soon as he goes under to get more gear she decides to jump back into the water for a life ring buoy I assume. Then when he comes back he has to save her from drowning because she got swept away. The entire situation is her own fault and just completely irritating because she’s full of nothing but contradictions.

Beyond the boat situation, it’s her entire character. She didn’t want to get married to the arranged marriage she had so she decided to go to Spencer. Spencer is a hunter and has the scars to prove it and tells her as much. He’s involved in a dangerous lifestyle. She knows this, but still pursues him anyways. That much is understandable, but what isn’t is when they get into a run in with lions and afterwards she’s like “I don’t want to be near any danger again.” but then when he’s told to come back home to fight a war she’s all in. I can admire how she’s a ride or die, but its kind of contradictory to be a ride or die into danger when you’ve expressly stated you don’t want any part of that. Also, going back to the lion encounter, Spencer tells her not to make any noise. She acknowledges him, and then proceeds to scream.

She’s just an all around annoying character. But, if that’s how her character is supposed to be, then it makes sense. Maybe the fact that she’s an entitled is why her character is like that…

TL;DR: Alex from 1923 is annoying because she does nothing but contradict herself and ignore simple crucial instructions which makes dangerous situations worse.
