Ryan Day is now 2-4 against Michigan as the Ohio State head coach and, up until yesterday, there have been numerous threads, talking points, and hot takes about how he is the modern day John Cooper. Great coach, but is either cursed, in his head, or flat out incompetent in the biggest regular season game of the year.
However, it is possible that the real reason Day lost 4 straight against Michigan wasn’t his own ego, stubbornness, or even illicit iPhone videos from vacuum salesmen - it was giving a roster spot to a Herbstreit.
- Kirk Herbstreit - QB at Ohio State from 1989-1992 - 0-3-1 in The Game
- Zak Herbstreit - TE at Ohio State from 2021-2024 - 0-4 in The Game
- Chase Herbstreit - QB at Michigan currently - 0-1 in The Game
Kirk’s father, Jim Herbstreit, was a three year letterman for Ohio State from 1958 - 1960 and went 2-1, so he is clearly the banner carrier for the Herbstreit family. Still, collectively, they’re 2-9-1 during their careers at Ohio State and Michigan.
Zak graduating lifted the curse from OSU, Sherrone Moore might want to consider having Chase transfer.
