It’s rivalry week, so I’m curious how many grew up in a divided household that got to see both sides of rivalry.

My grandad, dad, and I all graduated from A&M. My mom and sister went to Texas, but to be honest, it’s never felt like a fair split. My dad and grandad were passionate about A&M, not just its athletics department. My parents and grandparents house were both filled with Aggie memorabilia and you couldn’t walk into a room without being reminded where my dad and granddad went to college. My grandparents house even had a music box attached to their front door that played the Aggie War Hymn every time you entered.

You wouldn’t have known my mom and sister went to Texas unless you asked.

I’ll be honest, as a kid growing up, I was always more passionate about SMU, where we also had deep family ties, than either A&M or Texas, but it was way too expensive, so I ended up at A&M.

All that to say that Thanksgivings have always been very Aggie-centric in our house, even with two Longhorns. But watching the game with family as a kid, it was an interesting experience in that no one showed any emotion before, during, or after the game.

Curious to hear from others that grew up in a “house divided.”
