“Rescue Me” starring Dennis Leary is one of my favorite shows ever.
The series explores the lives and relationships of a tight-knit group of firefighters in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. The central character, Tommy Gavin, is a troubled and self-destructive alcoholic who is grappling with survivor’s guilt, post-traumatic stress disorder, and the emotional turmoil of a separation from his wife and children. He is frequently visited by the ghosts of his cousin and best friend, Jimmy Keefe, and other people he failed to save, blurring the lines between reality, trauma, and the supernatural.
With it’s gritty, shocking, dark humor, I don’t understand why I never see it recommended on these subs. It lasted 9 seasons and was wrapped up properly so I can’t have been the only one who loved it.
