This isn’t the same old post that hates the new format. I love me some good 10-episode seasons too, but I’m mostly just upset at the lack of variety.
I know we technically still have longer season shows, but they are usually only sitcoms/comedies or procedurals. I miss when we had full-on dramas with long seasons that had over 100 episodes and 5 seasons or more. Serialized shows that had specific storylines and not generic cop or crime shows or yet another medical show.
It allowed for deeper worldbuilding and storytelling. It gave us more time with the characters, had more low-stakes episodes where we can just bond with the characters in normal situations, fun wacky gimmick episodes, experimental episodes, etc.
I also just love knowing I can binge 100-200 episodes bc I love spending time with the characters. Even when they do crazy weird storylines later on, I still just love spending more time with characters I love and grew attached to.
But with that all said, I still love me some 10-episode seasons too. Like, for example, recently Dexter’s resurrection did amazingly well with its 10-episode season. I just miss when we had more variety. Shows should get however many episodes they need to make a better story.
