So I pulled up the ESPN Playoff Predictor and picked Oklahoma to beat LSU, I wanted to see a realistic seeding location to be expected. (Right now I’m thinking we’ll be 8 if we Bama doesn’t win the SEC and 9 if they do.)
This is what I got:
First Round Byes
- Ohio State
- Indiana
- Oregon
- Georgia
Everyone Else
- Oklahoma
- Texas Tech
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- Notre Dame
- Miami
- James Madison
- North Texas
I’m sorry… what are we doing here 😂
So many things here that make zero sense and this is literally impossible. I wanted so badly to try and give my best shot at what chaos-riddled fiasco would have to happen this weekend for this playoff bracket to be possible.
But just trying to figure out the SEC’s predicament and I was flabbergasted that ESPN would allow this to be published.
Some things I want to note that I found particularly amusing (listed in no particular order)
- Texas A&M isn’t here!!!
- Miami is in without winning the ACC
- Miami is not above Notre Dame
- Top three seeds are all Big Ten
- Oklahoma is ranked OVER the Big 12 Champ Texas Tech
- Duke must’ve beat SMU to win the ACC
- Somehow Ole Miss, Bama, and Texas A&M would have to lose their rivalry games just to give A&M the opportunity to get a second loss to Georgia
Don’t trust the playoff predictor is all I’m here to say, that simulated bracket is a crime against football. The percentages are probably trustworthy though.
Let me know if you see the vision ESPN Analytics is cooking here, because I can’t see it. Or any other ungodly scenarios that would have to happen for this to make sense.
