The recall effort against Gavin Newsom failed which is a bit crazy to think as over 6 million people voted for Trump in CA during the 2020 presidential election. Newsom & friends wouldn't attack Elder's policies but instead (in typical Democrat fashion) they attacked his character calling him an anti-vaccine Trump supporter. Biden started campaigning for Newsom and he would tell people at rallies that Elder was "to the right of Trump" and there was that horrible article from the LA Times that falsely proclaimed "Larry Elder is the black face of white supremacy: you have been warned". During Newsom's victory speech last night he doubled down on inequity, junk science, climate change and social justice.
For a long time now, CA has been a one party state and as we all know and it has led to disastrous liberal policies. My home of CA has the highest homelessness in the nation, some of the highest poverty rates in the nation, some of the highest taxes in the nation, the second highest housing prices in the nation (#1 if you only count certain areas- this is because of a massive housing shortage because developers have no incentive to build), high crime, forest mismanagement (at the state and federal level), and we are now in a water crisis because the liberals in power refuse to build desalination plants. Everything from gas, to food, to vehicles, to housing, to legal cannabis etc., is more expensive in CA. For nearly 3 decades, liberal environmental activists have maintained a firm grip on Sacramento and their policies are truly hurting the people of CA.
So my question is, what do we do next? As libertarians and conservatives what can we do to change the tide? My biggest concern is that if CA goes full blown socialism (which it isn't too far off from doing) and there is a great economic depression, that would literally affect the entire nation as CA is the 5th largest economy in the world. What can be done at this point?
