In case you haven't heard, the Biden administration seized control over the distribution of monoclonal antibodies, a therapeutic used to treat patients hospitalized with COVID. Their argument is that states should have an "equitable" share of the the drug in case there is a shortage in the future during a hypothetical new wave of cases. In other words, they are preparing to treat people who might be sick in the future at the expense of people who are actually sick right now. It's like a morbid reverse ponzi scheme.
This is 1 week after the administration promised to increase distribution of these antibodies by 50%. That promise is still up on their website at the time of this writing!
Of course, there are multiple layers to this initiative. Beyond the obvious pressure tactic to get more people vaccinated, this will clearly lead to more COVID deaths and poorer conditions in hospitals where cases are surging, making COVID look scarier and more formidable than it actually is. Prepare for news stories highlighting an increase of fatality rates at hospitals with zero mention of the restriction of healthcare options for those afflicted.
There's also the political aspect that treatment is being denied to red states now to protect blue states in the future, although I don't think COVID is really deadly enough for that to have a noticeable impact.
It is so frustrating to see collectivism in action like this. It always starts with picking winners and losers in the market, then progresses to who can speak and who can't, and eventually to who lives and who dies. Somehow we've managed to move through all three at lightning pace during the pandemic.
[Also... take note how easy it is for collectivism to advance with the support of the media. Trump had to basically bat 1.000 with COVID due to how vindictive the media was with him. Biden blatantly withholds treatment from sick people to protect non-sick people and it's lauded as "preventing shortages" by CNN.]
