It’s been so long since I watched 7th Heaven since it first aired. So I bought a bunch of the DVDs from eBay and discovered that some of the music I remembered is now gone from the DVDs. Here are some examples.
Season 5- There was one episode where Mary dances to “Love Shack”. The music here has been replaced and you can see one part where Mary is mouthing the Love Shack lyrics which isn’t matching the replaced song.
Season 6- Ruthie sings “I Won’t Back Down” as part of a school project. This part has been completely cut out of the episode.
Season 9- after Ruthie’s first date, she plays “Kiss Me” on the radio. Music here has been replaced and the part where Eric sings along to the Kiss Me song has been completely edited out.
Season 10- at the end of the finale, Roy Orbison’s “You Got It” plays while we see Then and Now clips of the Camdens before the ending credits roll. The music here has been completely replaced. Ironically this song is on the Season 1 DVD and intact in the pilot episode. So why weren’t they able to pay for the licensing here???
These are only a handful of music that I distinctly remembered and are now gone from the DVDs. Why on earth was it so difficult for CBS/Paramount to obtain the licensing for ANY of these songs??? I’m surprised there wasn’t any backlash from fans regarding this because there really wasn’t a whole lot of music here, so I don’t understand why no effort was made to relicense some of this music, especially the above I just mentioned since those songs in particular were essential to the plot of the episodes.
